Industry superannuation fund Hostplus has tapped NCS Australia to redesign its “outdated” mobile app and bring in new features.

The redesign of the app spanned from July to December last year and was brought in to replace its previous Xamarin-based app, which ARN understands was provided by Ogilvy Australia.

Official support for Xamarin from Microsoft ended on 1 May this year, which was an issue for Hostplus as it previously relied on the technology framework.

NCS claims the redesign uses “modern and scalable technology, integrating principles of accessible design, high-performance and first-class security”.

With the app redesigned, NCS’ focus is now on providing new features for the app.

“Delivery for this app was achieved within six months and on budget, creating a strong foundation for the addition of expanded features long term,” said NCS Australia apps engineering practice lead Simon Smiley-Andrews.

“The mobile app development was informed by member research and design principles, ensuring a digital experience that sets the app apart.”

NCS claims the redesign has been a success, with the median number of logins per member increasing by 30 per cent when comparing the three months before the app’s launch to after.

Additionally, NCS’ work on the app has led to it winning Gold in the 2024 Melbourne Design Awards in the Digital – Finance category.
