Datacom has officially opened its seventh Australian office in Canberra, highlighting the many opportunities associated with “winnable work” for the technology sector in the nation’s capital.

Currently, the local technology company also has two offices in Adelaide and one each in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Mike Fuller, managing director at Datacom said to ARN the company has over 200 staff in Canberra with approximately 2,500 employees in total nation-wide.

According to Fuller, the government sector is becoming increasingly discerning towards its investment in technology.

“This is prudent given the accelerated development of AI and cyber security, so while there remain questions being answered in terms of best application, especially with AI, the government sector is adopting a state of readiness by putting citizen and the end-user experience first when evaluating new technologies,” he said to ARN.

“In that sense, it’s not just about tech for the sake of giving people new tools, but ensuring they make a difference in terms of creating better connections, providing safe and secure environments to collaborate in and driving increased effectiveness for the individuals using them.”

For the channel, Fuller said this means turning Datacom’s attention to key issues and considerations of the government sector to know where investment in technology can add real day-to-day value.

“What excites me most in the technology arena is this increasing focus on customer value and enhancing experience,” he said. We are a long way past technology companies being prescriptive about the tools and services that customers get and find ourselves in a far more collaborative, conversation-driven environment.”

This creates defining opportunities for technology to make improvements that strategically fit the function it’s servicing, Fuller added.

The opening of its Canberra office comes months after Datacom opened its third integration centre in April to elevate support for central and regional customers and act as a national hub.
