Capgemini has acquired Australian product design and development consultancy D+I to improve its intelligent industry offerings in the country, which it claims is the “new era of digital transformation”.

D+I was founded in 1987 and has locations in Sydney, Melbourne and Newcastle, with expertise in mechanical engineering and electronics product development.

In a statement, Capgemini claimed intelligent industry is “characterised by a growing convergence of the physical and virtual worlds in terms of products, software, data and services”.

Capgemini Engineering CEO and group executive board member William Rozé said the acquisition will contribute to the consulting, technology services and digital transformation business’ skillset in designing, developing and delivering products and services expertise.

“We help organisations on the convergence between the physical and the digital worlds by developing and testing products virtually and managing them over the entire product life cycle. D+I will reinforce our product design capabilities in Australia spanning the medtech, industrial and consumer sectors,” he said.

Meanwhile, D+I CEO David Jones said Capgemini’s end to end intelligent industry capabilities will be a “natural home” for D+I’s expertise.

“Its global reach and client base will provide unrivalled opportunities and experiences for our team members. We are excited to join the Group,” Jones added.

The deal is due to close in the coming months and is subject to regulatory approval and other undisclosed conditions.
