Anthony Smith moves to Singapore as APJ channel sales director

HPE subsidiary Aruba is set to revamp its Australia and New Zealand leadership with the appointment of Patrick Devlin as director of South Pacific.

Devlin takes on the top position from Anthony Smith on 1 August, who has been promoted as Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) channel sales director in Singapore.

Most recently, Devlin was the director of HPE’s enterprise territory group in Australia, where he focused on customer acquisition across the vendor’s mid-market and enterprise business.

During his 20-year career, he has held A/NZ leadership roles with HPE’s SimpliVity and Ruckus units, plus senior roles with WatchGuard, Data Ops and Brocade.

Based in Sydney, Devlin will be charged with driving sales, new product launches and its channel partnerships throughout the region. He will also focus on expanding the vendor’s growth ambition into new sectors.

“Aruba’s focus on customer experience is what sets us apart in an industry that largely focuses on pure infrastructure,” he said. “This has been a crucial element of Aruba’s strong growth. It is especially important in the tough economic climate that has seen businesses tighten their spending on IT infrastructure and security.”

Meanwhile, Smith will relocate to Singapore to head up the regional channel, where he will be responsible for helping “nurture” both established and growing channel communities.

Smith first joined HPE in April 2016 as its server business unit director, before departing the company during a reshuffle seven months later.

He was subsequently brought back on board to take over Aruba leadership from Steve Coad in February 2017.

“I leave Aruba’s A/NZ business immensely proud of the growth in sales, revenue and customer outcomes that our team has achieved over the past two and a half years,” he said. “My next role is an exciting new remit and I jumped at the opportunity to bring my expertise and Aruba’s successful product offering to APJ’s diverse landscape.”
